Nico Huijbregts

Nico Huijbregts (1961) is a Dutch composer, pianist and painter. As a composer he is an autodidact and influenced by the many different styles of contemporary music. His recordings of improvisations on piano were well received internationally. The combination of lyricism and fragmentation are characteristic of both his composed and improvised pieces.

He worked and/or played together with musicians like Wilbert de Joode, John Dikeman, Onno Govaert, Tobias Klein, Ned McGowan, Michael Vatcher, Joost Buis, Twombly, Dominykas Vysniauskas, Sven Ratzke, Hans Woudenberg, Jorge Isaac, Esra Pehlivanli, Marko Kassl, Pieter Douma, Bo van de Graaf, Fred van Duijnhoven, Premier Roeles, Ricciotti Orkest, Meri Nikula, Frouke Wiarda, Uwe Matschke, Armand van den Hamer, Mioko Yoshihara, Toeac, Nora Mulder, Oliver Schneller, Okieson, Roeland van Niele, Matthijs Koene, Ensemble Black Pencil, Visisonor, Stichting De Loods, Neue Musik Ensemble Aachen, Dirk Luijmes, Ere Lievonen, Naomi Sato, Gerard van der Kamp, Harmjan Roeles and Raoul van der Weide. He played at festivals like Into the Great Wide open, Oerol, De Parade, Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Cultura Nova, Theaterfestival Boulevard and Horizontoer. His music was performed in Europe, Russia, South-America and Africa.

Recently his cd “Hoe alles oplost” was released on the VINDU label, a cd with new chamber music pieces about which the press wrote: “Huijbregts delivers an artistically succesful job with his cd of contemporary chamber music. His virtuosic piece “Fárfanesque” for recorder, pan flute,viola, accordeon and percussion is a both cerebral and emotional work, which breaks through the bounderies of traditional South-American music in a extreme manner.
