Description A piece for flute and harpsichord that I wrote in 2013. It was commissioned by harpsichord player Goska Isphording and flutist Marieke Franssen, both members of the Dutch contemporary music group 'Ensemble 306', who recorded it this year (2014) for my cd "Hoe alles oplost" - a cd with recent chamber music pieces for different instruments.

In 'A passive goal' both musicians are trying desperately to escape the compelling melodic or rhythmic patterns, the indestructible clichés and musical memories that are found in the piece, but don't seem to find other means than a nervous and senseless repetition of actions. Both performers are captured in this musical material. However sometimes there seems to be a temporary escape into a lyrical melody, a quasi airy dance or a moment of relief, but then inevitably arises again the armor of repetition.

A version for flute and piano is also available.
